The player who just moved his/her piece then reads the next card aloud for the other player. Once they have correctly identified the spelling rule he/she moves to the next available space on the board. The other player must identify the spelling rule (le, il, el, etc.). One player picks up a card and reads the word aloud (without letting the other player read the card). Place the spelling word cards face down in a pile. You don’t have to use them all!Įach player needs a token to move around the board. Then we played rounds (and rounds!) of board games and bingo games with these words! Of course, you can use the spelling words that work best for your student. My daughter used these cards with a sorting mat for the first couple of days. The word list I put together includes some of the most common words used in each category. Plus, there is an additional sheet with some of the words used in All About Spelling ( affiliate link) (the spelling program we have used for years). There are 10 to 15 word cards for each of the rules (I gave some examples above). I also made ED a number of game sets and activities for practicing these tricky spellings.
